Meet the nerd behind the camera.
Hi, I’m Lindsey
I’ve used photography as a means to catalogue my own experiences since I was old enough to hold a camera. (Cliche, but true.) It’s always been there - casually in the background - until I finally understood the artistry of it when I took my first class back in 2004. Since then, I’ve been on the most beautiful, meandering journey as I’ve found my place and my voice as a documentary photographer.
I’ve been working in the industry piecemeal in and around Richmond, Virginia for over 17 years and have owned and operated my own business full time since 2020. In that time, I have photographed over a hundred weddings, events and countless family stories.
When I’m not working, you can easily find me browsing the shelves of any local bookstore or galivanting in the park with my 3-year-old. I have two cats and a spicy 14-year-old snake named Bananas.
What is it like to work with me?
I’ve got a PhD in flying by the seat of my pants. Nothing makes me happier than rolling in to a session or a wedding with no expectations, no shot list and no formula. I do my best work when I’m allowed to be fully present, without the chatter of traditional standards mucking up the creative flow.
I know when to be a fly on the wall, but I’m not shy about getting the shot. I’m there to offer gentle guidance, but I won’t boss you around. I’ll be talking and laughing with you one moment and you’ll forget I’m there the next.
I operate through a lens of curiosity and keen observation, relying on framing and a creative eye to draw out the beauty in an otherwise ordinary moment. With documentary photography, I honor the poetry of your life with honesty and truth.
But perhaps most importantly: I am always having a dang good time.
Some Other Stuff
-
Sony mirrorless A7III - my ride or die.
24mm 1.4 prime - pretty sure this lens rewired my brain.
85mm 1.4 prime - the perfect buttery portrait lens.
70-200mm 2.8 - always out for wedding ceremonies and when I feel like I need to be extra sneaky.
Godox flash family for both on and off camera
Fractals and creative filters from Prism Lens FX (and various random doo-dads.)
-
My first go-to set was by “Get Fractals” (that’s the crazy brass-knuckle-thing you see in the photo) and it was the best possible intro into fractal photography!
Otherwise, my current favorites are the amber solar flare and split phantom by Prism Lens FX and various reflective pieces to create subtle double-exposure or mirror effects!
-
You just can’t beat golden hour, but I’ve really come to embrace every time of day and type of light. Sometimes harsher sun has brought unique creative opportunities and some of my fractals work best with harder light. But I think my favorite is a sunny day with big fluffy clouds for the sun to dip in and out of.
Variety is the spice of life, as they say.
-
BOTH. I like to use available light whenever possible and I have a lot of fun with watching how it hits differently throughout the day. But sometimes a boost is simply needed, or dancing at a wedding reception needs to be well appreciated. I know my way around flash (both on camera and off) and can light just about any room with a couple of well-placed stands.
